Experience a spectacular celebration of music and at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s much-loved Steam Railway Proms. Returning to Havenstreet Station, this popular outdoor concert brings together the stunning sounds of the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra with the unique atmosphere of a working heritage railway.
Set against a backdrop of historic steam locomotives and beautifully preserved Victorian and Edwardian carriages, the event promises a memorable summer afternoon for visitors of all ages.
The Steam Railway Proms combines live orchestral music, steam train rides and a relaxed atmosphere in one of our island’s most unique settings. Whether you are a classical music enthusiast, a steam railway fan or simply looking for a fantastic outdoor event on the Isle of Wight, the Proms offers a truly special experience.
Live music from the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra
The event welcomes back the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Butcher. Audiences can enjoy an exciting programme of music from some of the world’s best-loved films and traditional Proms favourites, all performed live in the atmospheric surroundings of the Steam Railway.
The afternoon programme includes music from:

- Moana
- The Railway Children
- Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
- ET Flying Theme
- Souza Marches
- Traditional Last Night of the Proms favourites
The concert concludes with a lively Last Night of the Proms finale, complete with flag waving and audience participation, creating a joyful and celebratory atmosphere for all to enjoy.
Outdoor proms experience
The Steam Railway Proms takes place outdoors at Havenstreet Station, allowing you to relax and enjoy the music in the Railway’s beautiful heritage surroundings. Please bring your own seating and picnic.
For those preferring refreshments on site, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s bar and café will also be open throughout the event, offering food and drinks.
Dogs are welcome too, making the proms an event for the whole family!
Ride the steam trains
Alongside the concert itself, you can also enjoy travel on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s beautifully restored steam trains. Travelling on the Railway offers the chance to experience the golden age of steam travel, with journeys through our island countryside aboard immaculately restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages. The sights, sounds and atmosphere of the heritage railway add an extra layer of nostalgia and excitement to the proms experience.
Combined Train and Concert tickets are available, allowing you to make the most of both the live music and the steam railway experience during your visit. Concert-only tickets are also available for those wishing to attend the performance without train travel.
