About
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is back for 2022 and will be held over two days to include even more fantastic performances and exhibition spaces.
This long-standing event, now in its 121st year, will have a royal theme to continue the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations that are happening nationally throughout the month.
With a history of Queen Victoria exhibiting and becoming the show’s first patron in 1882, the show really is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a slice of rural Island life and meet the best of the Island’s growers, producers, makers and artists. And there are also plenty of guest performers who have been invited to the island to entertain us.
Here’s a taste of what to expect:
Family entertainment
- Get up close and personal with pigs, sheep, goats, calves, chickens and ducks in the Show Farm. Watch cows being milked and try your hand at leading a sheep or herding a pig!
- Head to the Village Green for a giant jubilee picnic; face painting, balloon art and performances from the Hampshire Police Male Voice Choir and the Island’s favourite magician, Mr Randini.
- Meet members of the Isle of Wight Young Farmers Club who will be hosting wellie wanging, a miniature tractor course and games for the whole family in the Activities Area.
- Enjoy vintage attractions, a classic vehicle display and trail bike riders performing some impressive stunts!
- Enter Dash the Sheepdog Trail where children can collect phrases from each area of the show and enter a prize draw.
- Bring your pooch and enter the Fun dog show. Categories, include, best rescue dog, best puppy under 12 months, waggiest tail, Dog most like its owner and many more.
Main ring performances
- See the Queen’s Colour Squadron perform their world-famous drill display.
- Big Bale Challenge – Watch 12 teams compete to push a large bale round an obstacle course!
- A display of more than 70 vintage tractors.
- Grand parade of winners from all show competitions.
The best of the Island
- Make a visit to the CO-OP Food Pavilion to sample the best of Isle of Wight’s delicious local produce, from cheese and chutneys to meat, vegetables and alcoholic drinks. Many of the growers, makers and producers are Wight Marque members, which means their products are lovely and local.
- Try your hand at a range of arts and crafts from lino printing to jewellery making. The Island Arts area is a great opportunity to engage with local artists and find out how they have developed their amazing talents.
- Browse the stalls at the I Love Wight Makers’ Market for gorgeous homewares, jewellery, ceramics, skincare ranges, candles, prints and cards.
Woodland
- Go on a woodland walk and try your hand at traditional craftsmanship including hurdle making, charcoal making and spoon whittling.
- See the Adams Axemen in action; the country’s best known lumberjack display team. And visit the Woodland bar for a local beer.
Livestock area
A bit like the livestock Olympics – see the sheep and cattle being judged, with cups ranging from Best in Class to Supreme Champions. Fancy being a farmer? Try your hand at leading a sheep or calf.
Equine area
- Trot along to see the show jumping, Island pony Club Games and horse showing (including Shetland ponies).
