We look forward to sharing the Isle of Wight with you once again in the near future, whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to your favourite home from home. In the meantime we ask that you please continue to follow Government guidelines and stay home, keeping happy and healthy, and helping to bring the date we can say “Welcome to the Island” ever closer.
Right now is the time to plan for when you can, to feel inspired and excited by everything there is to look forward to in the months ahead. We stay home now, so that we can all be together under the sun later. We’ll see you by the sea, when the time is right.

For many families, travelling abroad for half term is too expensive and just too much hassle. So, what if there was somewhere that you could travel to easily and by crossing the water feel as though you were leaving the country. Then look no further and choose the Isle of Wight for your May half term adventures.
Whatever you want to do over the May half term holiday, you’ll find plenty of activities, attractions and fresh air on the sunny Isle to suit all ages from the tiniest people to the pickiest of teenagers. There are miles of beaches to explore and beach-comb, dinosaur footprints to discover and fossils to find as well as waves to surf and sandcastles to build. For keen walkers and cyclists there are flat trails to follow as well as more challenging routes including a round the Island cycle path. Take a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

The Island’s attractions are open for business during the holidays and often offer special shows and events during half term. Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill, the Isle of Wight Zoo, Amazon World Zoo Park and Tapnell Farm are all great places for kids to enjoy the rides, animals and run around to their heart’s content. There are on site refreshments available too so you can really make a day of it. There plenty of history too on the Island and Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle should be on your visit list as should the historic Needles Battery and The Isle of Wight Steam Railway with its fabulous Victorian and Edwardian rolling stock and museum. The ever popular Needles Landmark Attraction should definitely be on your list too. Sandham Gardens also provides a great value day out for all ages with skynets, electric go-karts and adventure golf.
Many of the Island’s hotels, holiday accommodation, beaches, pubs and restaurants are dog friendly so you could bring the dog and have a real family half term and while we’re talking about food, you’ll be spoiled for choice. From beach side cafes to pubs, fine dining and cream teas, there’s something to tempt everyone’s taste and suit everyone’s budget. Enjoy local produce, fresh fish and go home feeling that you really have had a true Isle of Wight half term experience.
Whatever you decide to do and however you’re travelling, it couldn’t be easier to get to the Isle of Wight via Lymington, Southampton, Southsea or Portsmouth. There are regular rail connections to the south coast via South Western Railway.
