The Isle of Wight is full of cycle trails and we can’t wait for you to see how fantastic our scenery is. There are so many routes for you to choose from, but here are some of our favourites.
One of the most popular cycling trails on the Isle of Wight; perfect for all levels of ability. The full route starts and finishes in East Cowes but can easily be broken down into smaller stretches. You’ll get a bit of everything on this trail – except traffic! There are a few tiny sections where you’ll need to cross a road but the vast majority of the trail is off-road. You’ll cycle alongside the River Medina, old railway lines and you’ll even enjoy a stretch of seafront when you get to Sandown and Shanklin.
Chalk Ridge Extreme is not for the faint hearted! Test those leg muscles by tackling some of the steepest hills on the Island. You’ll be pedalling up and over the western coastline and you’ll witness some of the Isle of Wight’s most stunning scenery. The Chalk Ridge Extreme route is hugely challenging due to its steep gradient and the variety of track surfaces, which range from mud to slippery chalk. There are some easier sections along the way to give your legs a bit of a rest though!
This trail in the West Wight is an inland route including Yarmouth and Freshwater with the opportunity to stop at Freshwater Bay, one of the most scenic viewpoints on the Island. You’ll meander alongside the River Yar and will enjoy an insight into country life on the Isle of Wight.
This varied route will offer cycle trails, forest trails and quiet roads. You’ll get the opportunity to explore Cowes and you’ll visit picturesque Gurnard; the perfect spot for a pub lunch. The route will also take you into Parkhurst Forest before you join NCN 23 back to where you started near Newport.
This exciting route includes lots of places to explore, from Arreton Barns where you’ll be amazed at the unique crafts on offer to the popular Isle of Wight Steam Railway. You’ll be riding on St Georges Downs and through farms, but this route also includes some road cycling.
The Quarr Abbey loop will keep you busy for a few hours! This mixed terrain course will see you cycle from forest to vineyard, through beautiful countryside and stunning coastline. You’ll take in historical sites and can take a well-earned break at Quarr Abbey itself.
