It’s easy to plan a walk with a theme when the Isle of Wight is steeped in so much history, culture and wildlife. Children will love searching for dinosaur fossils, historians will enjoy reading up on the life of Queen Victoria and fitness addicts will happily explore the hills of the West Wight. Have a browse through our walks with a theme and let our Travel Ambassadors know if you’ve tried them!
The Isle of Wight is sometimes referred to as Dinosaur Island due to the extensive evidence that proves prehistoric life existed.
The scenery of the Isle of Wight so inspired the Poet Laureate, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, that he made his home at Farringford, Freshwater in the1850s.
This walk is the perfect hike for ramblers looking for a challenge. The famous chalk stacks will emerge from the rolling hills of Tennyson Downs and you’ll be able to stop at the popular Needles landmark attraction.
If you dream of a life at sea, Cowes is the perfect place for a relaxed stroll around the marinas. Internationally recognised as a sailing hub, visit Cowes when there’s a sailing regatta taking place and you’ll be spoilt for choice for boats and yachts to gaze at.
The Warrior Trail is a six mile circular trail which can be tackled on foot, by bike and even on horseback. It has been created in celebration of one of the Isle of Wight’s most prominent First World War stories; that of General Jack Seely and his horse Warrior.
