About
Unique evening of real ale and steam trains
Enjoy a traditional evening of steam travel and locally brewed ales at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s popular Real Ale Train event. Taking place at Havenstreet Station, this much-loved event combines heritage steam train journeys with a fantastic selection of real ales, creating a memorable experience for railway enthusiasts, beer lovers and those looking for a unique night out on the Isle of Wight.
Set against the nostalgic backdrop of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, the event offers the chance to travel aboard beautifully restored steam trains while sampling a range of beers served at stations along the line. With evening train services, station bars and a lively social atmosphere, the Real Ale Train perfectly blends traditional railway heritage with a relaxed celebration of real ale.
Ride the steam trains into the evening
You can board the train for a tour of the line, travelling between Havenstreet, Wootton and Ashey stations while enjoying the sights and sounds of heritage steam travel. Trains will run throughout the day before the event continues into the evening with a special extended timetable, allowing you to experience the railway after hours.
Travelling aboard historic Victorian and Edwardian carriages hauled by traditional steam locomotives creates a wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere. As evening falls and the station lights glow, the Railway takes on a unique character that makes the experience even more memorable. The combination of steam, heritage stations and traditional real ale creates a unique evening out with a distinctive Isle of Wight twist.
Tickets include unlimited train travel throughout the day, giving you plenty of opportunities to hop on and off the trains and explore each station during the event. Adults arriving after 4pm also receive a complimentary pint as part of their visit, adding even more value to the evening experience.
Sample a selection of real ales
A carefully selected range of real ales will be available. You can enjoy a glass or two while stopping at Havenstreet and Ashey stations, with bars open from 4pm.
At Havenstreet Station, a range of beers will be available on tap in the Whistle Stop Café. The event provides the perfect opportunity to discover new ales and enjoy old favourites.
Locally sourced food
Alongside the extensive ale offering, you can also enjoy a mouth-watering selection of locally sourced, sizzling sausages to keep you fuelled all day. There will be a variety of flavours including pork, cranberry and rosemary, pork and leek, and fiery chilli to name a few!
Free entry to Havenstreet Station
If you do not wish to travel on the train you can still enjoy the atmosphere of the event, with free entry available to Havenstreet Station during the Real Ale Train evening. This allows you to enjoy the bars, refreshments and heritage surroundings.
