Discover Saltmarsh Week at the Visitor Point
From the 6 to 14 June, the National Trust on the Isle of Wight are celebrating World Saltmarsh Day with a week of guided walks, expert talks, and hands-on discovery at the visitor point. Whether you're a regular visitor or coming for the first time, there's something for everyone. Head to our website to find out more and book your space on a walk or talk.
Join us throughout Saltmarsh Week for a relaxed and engaging experience at the visitor point. Open daily, you can explore a range of displays and hands-on activities at your own pace—perfect for dropping in whenever suits you.
What's on
Photography exhibition – A series of large-format images by Theo Vickers showcasing the colours, textures and wildlife of Newtown's saltmarsh.
Native saltmarsh tank – A live display featuring some of the fascinating species found in and around the saltmarsh.
Saltmarsh on screen – A short film playing on loop, capturing the sights and sounds of the landscape.
Microscope station – Get up close to plankton, microbes and other tiny saltmarsh life.
Special visit: Bird Aware Solent
Thursday 11 June, 11am–3pm
Meet Bird Aware Rangers and learn about the coastal birds that visit the Solent, many of which rely on saltmarsh. Enjoy activities, games and pick up a free bird guide.

World Saltmarsh Day guided walk
Thursday 11 June, 1pm
Join Theo Vickers and ecologist Paul Davies for a relaxed walk exploring the plants, wildlife and importance of Newtown's saltmarsh.
Birds of the estuary and saltmarsh walk
Friday 12 June, 9am
A guided early morning walk led by a ranger, ideal for spotting birdlife. Suitable for all levels—binoculars recommended.
