VENTNOR FRINGE ANNOUNCES EXTENDED EVENT FOR 2021 The Ventnor Exchange team are excited to kickstart the new year by confirming plans for Ventnor Fringe to return this summer, with a special extended event from 23rd July - 1st August 2021. Over ten full days the festival will once again be transforming spaces across the Island’s southernmost town to host it’s unique and creative programme of live events; spanning theatre, music, film and art.
Extending the event from it’s normal six to ten days, Festival Co-Director Jack Whitewood explained “While we’re confident that a gradual return of live events will take place as the year progresses, this year will undoubtedly be different to normal. Extending to ten days will allow us to make up for the reduced capacities caused by social distancing, with acts giving additional performances instead. We’ll be spreading the whole event out, both physically and over a longer duration, to ensure it’s a safe and accessible experience for everyone. ”
A host of new acts have been announced including RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant Joe Black who will be previewing new show ‘Decopunk’ plus ‘Work In Progress’ performances from comedians Lou Sanders (Taskmaster, Travelman, QI) Geoff Norcott (Live at the Apollo, Mash Report, Mock the Week) Tez Ilyas (Tez O’Clock Show - Channel 4, TEZ Talks - BBC Radio 4, Man Like Mobeen - BBC Three) and musical comedy duo Flo and Joan.
Families with younger children will be excited by a new ‘Mini Fringers’ event featuring popular TV presenter Andy Day with his ‘Dino Raps’ live show, and for the first time at the Fringe a visit from the Circus! Featuring Acrobatics to Trapeze, Comedy to Juggling, The Greatest Showpeople! Will be heading to the Big Top in Ventnor Park.
Music fans won’t be disappointed with the festival building on its reputation for showcasing some of the best new music around. This year’s programme will feature live shows with Indie favourites Gengahr, post punk, art rock trailblazers Do Nothing, the Cumbia vibes of Los Bitchos and outstanding breakthrough act Billy Nomates.
With more than 150 different shows expected to form this year’s programme, we’ve barely scratched the surface, but already it’s shaping up to be the most diverse, interesting and creative it’s ever been, and the celebration we all need after 2020.
All events at Ventnor Fringe are individually ticketed, with capacities in all spaces being kept to small numbers to ensure the best possible chance of the event going ahead as planned this summer. please visit vfringe.co.uk for ticketing information.
Over the past ten years the Ventnor Fringe has gradually grown into a key date in the Island’s calendar, attracting artists from all over the country and internationally to showcase new work, often as previews ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe. Alongside many free events, shows are individually ticketed and sold through the Ventnor Exchange.
