Guided walk in Ryde

On Sunday 13th July you are welcome to join a celebrated raconteur on a guided walk in Oscar Wilde’s former footsteps around Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

Oscar Wilde historic lecture

In 1884 Oscar Wilde delivered a lecture ‘On Dress’ at Ryde Town Hall as part of an international speaking tour. Famous or Infamous in equal measure, Oscar drew crowds who came to be entertained but stayed to be informed. 140 years on, the spectre of Oscar still haunts Union Street.

Step back in time

The guided walk will begin outside the Town Hall in Lind Street and from here you will walk past Hughes & Mullins, Royal Photographers who captured the iconic image of Oscar. The walk will continue along the Esplanade/Promenade to the final stop at Appley Tower where you can climb to the top for panoramic views of Puckpool Park and the Solent.
