Isle of Wight Pride is proud to be hosting UK Pride 2018 and will be held in Ryde on Saturday 21st July 2018.
In October 2017 Isle of Wight Pride beat stiff competition at the UK Pride Organisers Network conference to win the right to host UK Pride 2018.
Pride events are a strong reminder to those who identify as LGBTQ who have lived through countless historical struggles including criminalisation of homosexuality, the AIDS epidemic, Section 28, and the prejudice and abuse felt by so many as they struggle to take pride in who they were born to be.
For many years, the LGBT community of the Isle of Wight have kept a little secret hidden from the rest of the world. An idyllic retreat off the South Coast of England has become home to many LGBT individuals, couples, families and their children. Those who have moved away from the Island still hold fond memories of its diverse beautiful landscape.
Now, in it's second year, the Island’s LGBT community is being recognised, celebrated and supported by the whole community, by hosting UK Pride in its second year. Situated on the stunning golden beaches of Ryde, IW Pride will include a colourful parade through the heart of the Victorian seaside town, information stalls, art opportunities for everyone to get involved with and a party on the beach. All the fun of a festival, whilst importantly raising awareness of the thriving LGBT community situated here and the vital contribution they make to the Island’s rich heritage.
The Island has a huge variety of attractions to keep even the most active of visitors occupied. Whether it’s amazingly romantic or adventurous walks, mouth-watering cuisine with our large selection of eating establishments and who could forget the huge array of family friendly attractions that bring out the big kid in all of us. It’s not just the scenery that will entice you to visit, there really is something for everybody and once you have visited once, it will leave you wanting to return time and time again.
IW Pride aims to build a legacy which will encourage LGBT visitors to our shores all year round. Voted recently as one of the top ten Honeymoon destinations for LGBT people, is it any wonder why everybody is raving about the Isle of Wight and wanting to join the IW Pride celebrations in Ryde on Saturday, July 21st or for a long weekend. Come and share the secret.
Isle of Wight Pride will be an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate, for us to take pride in how far we have come, how proud we are of our beautiful Island but also, just as importantly we need to highlight the work that still needs to be done. We really hope that we will also show that the Isle of Wight is a great place to live and a welcoming place to visit gaining us a reputation as a friendly destination for everyone.
On the big day there will be a fabulous Parade route through Ryde onto Union Street, carrying on to the Pride site on Ryde Seafront. The Pride site will host a fantastic Pride Village with Stalls & Exhibitors as well as food & Drink outlets. You will find an acoustic stage and family friendly areas with the aim of making Isle of Wight Pride accessible for everybody.
There will be a main stage arena on the seafront boasting top Headline acts and entertainment throughout the day. Details of the acts will be announced through our website and social media. You really will find something to appeal to everyone. This will be continued in the evening with a ticketed night time event for over 18's at a local Ryde venue.
