Discover the Isle of Wight's history at Quarr Abbey

A rare opportunity to hear about many different aspects of our island history with seven fascinating talks on the 29th June in the Abbey Pavilion at Quarr Abbey.

Morning talks (11am - 1pm)

Discover how the oldest museum on our island, Carisbrooke Museum has evolved to be a hub of island heritage. Sally from Calbourne Water Mill talks about the history of milling and the hidden stories in our landscape. Finally hear from Christopher Warleigh-Lack, curator at Osborne House, as he shares insights into the private culture of remembrance created by Queen Victoria in honour of her husband.

Afternoon talks (2pm - 5pm)

Spend an afternoon hearing all about the history of aviation on our island from volunteers at the Wight Aviation Museum and learning about Isabella de Fortibus who essentially rebuilt Carisbrooke Castle. Learn more about Farringford the former home of Alfred Lord Tennyson. Dr. David Tomlin talks about archaeology and upstanding ruins still lurking in the landscape on the Isle of Wight. Join us for what promises to be a fascinating afternoon.
