Brookside Cottage has a delightful little brook running alongside the garden. Whilst now modernised, the property dates back to 1700.
The ground floor has a spacious living room and fully fitted kitchen with a range cooker, microwave & dishwasher. There is also a washing machine & tumble dryer in the adjoining utility room along with a downstairs toilet. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms (one kingsize with ensuite shower and two twin bedded rooms) and a family bathroom. The cottage is furnished to a high standard and with double-glazing, gas central heating and a wood burner, is ideal for holidays and short breaks all year round. Wood and smokeless fuel provided in winter months.
The lawned garden is ideal for star gazing and even the Milky Way is visible on a clear night. With no street lights to disrupt your viewing just bring your telescope!
Guests staying for 4 nights or more are welcomed with a hamper containing local island produce. A typical hamper will include IOW milk, cheese, apple juice, cake, eggs, tomato ketchup, muesli/sausages, sun-dried tomatoes – all from the Brighstone Village Shop (items can be swapped on request) plus butter, cookies from Isle of Wight Biscuit Company and Country Market jam. Fairtade coffee, tea & sugar and the local newspaper are also provided in the cottage. The Brighstone Village Shop is well stocked and you should be able to buy most items that you will need during your stay.
Shorwell nestles in a wooded valley, encircled by hills. The village has three manor houses and many thatched and stone built picturesque cottages. The village has a great pub, The Crown Inn, which dates back to the 16th century. The pub has a lovely trout filled brook running through its garden (the same one as Brookside Cottage, which is directly opposite).
The oldest part of the village is known as Westview and is close to the church of St Peter. The church itself dates back to the 12th century. The village also boasts a post office, refronted in Georgian style. At the steep shute leading out of Shorwell a rustic bridge crosses over the road – perfect for photographs! You will find access to many lovely downland walks in every direction from this Isle of Wight holiday cottage.
