Words Beyond Language

On Thursday 22nd Aug we welcomed students, parents and staff of the Lionheart school to a celebration of their exhibition 'Words beyond Language'. The exhibition is the culmination of a fabulous Art Oracy project showcasing work by students from Lionheart School, developed with artist Nathan Holt and support from Artswork.

Eight striking multilayered artworks are based on sound experiments used to capture the voices and opinions of students from the Lionheart School, working with artist Nathan. The exhibition is on until 28th September.

The project – part of Artswork's Young Cultural Changemakers programme – aimed to help students develop a personal connection to their words and better understand their impact. Recognising that improved 'oracy' (fluent and effective communication) is linked to better mental health and academic achievements, it focused on three key strands: vocabulary, voice, and confidence in speaking.

Artswork's Young Cultural Changemakers programme empowers young people to make a difference to their communities through creativity, and is supported by Government funding through Arts Council England.
