About
A solo exhibition of landscape paintings by Alan Daysh.
'There is a deep simplicity to the island landscape. The soft, rounded curves of the downland and the patchwork of trees and fields stretching to the horizon. The skies are constantly changing and each day brings a unique combination of light, tone and colour.
The subject of all my paintings is the distance, the feeling of space and freedom, standing before a timeless moment. I'm interested in blending the tones and colours of the paint to recreate the feeling of being outside and being part of the landscape.
With this exhibition, I want to show the many moods of the Island landscape, particularly the interaction between the downland and the sky. The paintings are fairly small in scale and often painted outside on either canvas boards or wooden panels. I usually paint quickly using cloths and large brushes to capture the spontaneity of the rapidly changing scene.
I'm particularly interested in three painters of the British landscape, JMW Turner, John Constable and Samuel Palmer. Each one has strived in their own way to express something sublime or magical in the seemingly familiar.
I have been lucky enough to have had many solo and joint exhibitions, including exhibiting with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. I've had work printed by the John Lewis chain of department stores, and I've sold work around the world, in places as diverse as Japan, the Netherlands, Finland and Taiwan.
Wherever I travel, I'm always drawn back to the Island landscape and intend to paint these soft, distant hills as long as possible.'
This exhibition will be held in the Clayden Gallery, Quay Arts. For further information regarding this event please visit the Quay Arts website linked.
