About
The Bembridge Fort Magazine Theatre presents Paul Kerensa, ITV award-winning comedian, radio historian, and British Comedy Award-winning writer for TV shows Inc. Miranda, Top Gear, Buble at the BBC, Royal Variety Show and TFI Friday and radio shows Inc. The Now Show and Dead Ringers.
Enjoy an evening of old radio, comedy and unique entertainment on Saturday 2nd August 2025 at 7pm.
This new one-man stage show informs, educates but above all entertains about the origin story of the BBC, radio and life as we know it. Comedian/writer/historian Paul Kerensa has found new (old) info hidden in the archives – including forgotten firsts, long lost broadcasts, and several unheralded female pioneers to present The BBC Story: 1922-present day (Inc. The First Firsts of Broadcasting) - picking up the tale from the BBC’s launch. The first BBC song, drama including the forgotten story of the BBC’s first playwright Phyllis Twigg from Ventnor, children’s radio - all told in Paul unique and humorous style.
“A brilliant writer, fantastic communicator, deep thinker, philosopher & extremely decent bloke.” – CHRIS EVANS
“Top comic, top writer.” – LEE MACK
“Paul has a brilliant way of bringing these stories to life. I’ve worked in radio for decades but didn’t know any of this tale of how broadcasting began.” – review of The British Broadcasting Century Podcast
