Bembridge Heritage Visitor Centre (BHVC) brings together the diverse stories of a seaside village.
The range of social, military, seafaring and industrial development is extraordinary for a village community.
BHVC displays and has a vast archive of past daily life, with shopping, services, occupations and entertainment.
The important role military installations played during both World Wars were vital to success.
The coastal position inspired and still contributes to boatbuilding and yacht design, sailing and fishing – with smuggling adding to the mix in past times.
Aviation saw Britten-Norman developing and selling the Cushioncraft and Islander aircraft worldwide.
The beautiful environment has attracted visitors by train, boat and plane for many decades and tourism is still an important part of village life.
Remarkable individuals, heroes and rescue services (e.g. RNLI and Fire Brigade) have inspired and contributed not only to the local area but far beyond.
Bembridge is packed with history.
Bembridge Heritage Visitor Centre is described as ’a gem of a museum’. Come and take a look.
