About
Discover the magic of carnival and the creativity behind New Carnival's annual Mardi Gras, a children and young people focused parade at the beginning of July in Ryde, with environmental responsibility prioritised. This exhibition offers a rare chance to see the costumes up close and to find out about the craft, design and teamwork that goes into producing them.
Explore New Carnival's current two year theme 'Folktastic Isle'. The 2025 section celebrated 'The Wheel of the Year' and the Island's rich tradition of seasonal celebrations, with highlights from the six-month learning journey shared with schools and community groups, alongside the invaluable contributions of New Carnival's Creative Volunteers.
For the upcoming 2026 parade 'Folk Stories, Myths, and Legends' will be the inspiration, revealing lesser-known Island folklore tales and explaining how these will be brought to life and shared within our carnivals, in themselves a folk tradition!
This exhibition will be held in the West Gallery, Quay Arts.
