Island Planetarium in Yarmouth will take you on a fascinating journey through time and space in our immersive Astrodome theatre and exhibition. It will stimulate your mind and imagination, transporting you to new places while revealing the wonders of the night sky.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or a returning space enthusiast, Island Planetarium offers something for all ages and levels of curiosity. Families, schools, amateur astronomers and casual visitors alike will find engaging content that brings science to life in an entertaining way. Knowledgeable volunteers guide you through each experience, answering questions and sharing fascinating insights about the universe, the night sky and the latest discoveries in astronomy.

Virtual reality experience

Experience an intimate Planetarium experience within the theatre that provides an awe-inspiring and realistic view of the whole sky at night. Explore the universe and stars, taking you to places you've never been before from the surface of the moon and a flyby of Jupiter to the depth of outer space. 

Robert Hooke exhibition

In the Robert Hooke exhibition discover our scientist/inventor, born in 1635 on the Isle of Wight, in Freshwater. Not only a surveyor of the City of London after the Great Fire, but he was also a physicist, astronomer, geologist, engineer and inventor/developer of the universal joint, and many mechanisms in daily use today. Stargazing evenings

Island Planetarium is based at Fort Victoria Country Park that has been awarded Dark Sky Discover Site status. It's the perfect place to enjoy a spectacular view of the stars. The stargazing evenings will help you explore the night sky and learn what you can see throughout the month. You'll get a printed monthly sky guide to remind you what to look for. 

If the sky is clear, there's telescopic and binocular observing, giving you the perfect experience to discover the stars in our beautiful night sky. 

These evenings provide a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of astronomy while enjoying a memorable experience.

Booking is essential for these evenings. 

Walk-in Wednesdays

View a variety of shows from 10.30am until 3.30pm every Wednesday. If visiting in the winter, please call (07713 762796) before arriving to confirm opening times. 

Opening in winter

During the winter months Island Planetarium is only open for advertised shows or if you have pre-booked a visit. Please call us for more information. 

Historic planetarium

Discover the history of the Island Planetarium since it opened in 1993 from how this attraction was first established to how it has developed overtime.
