Around seven per cent of the UK population now follows a vegetarian diet and if you are coming to the Isle of Wight on holiday, then you won’t be short of choice of places to eat or great non-meat produce to buy.
Isle of Wight cheeses from Briddlesford Farm and the Isle of Wight Cheese Company have won a bunch of awards in recent years. The Isle of Wight Cheese Company’s prize winning fromage is available across the Island.
Bluebells Café at Briddlesford, on the outskirts of Newport is in the heart of a working dairy farm and its adjoining farm shop can supply its own cheeses, milk, butter and cream.
And you can pick up local vegetables and Isle of Wight tomatoes and garlic to get the real Isle of Wight food experience.
But being on holiday is often about eating out and these days all the pubs and restaurants are well set up for the veggie diet.
One café bar that has gained a good reputation for vegetarian food in recent years is Cibo at Wootton Bridge. Here you can get a superb veggie breakfast or lunch.
Freshwater Coffee House in the West of the Island also offers delicious veggie choices from breakfast to closing time.
If it is evening veggie dining you are interested then Cowes has a great choice of restaurants. The Coast is popular as a wine bar and restaurant with tasty veggie options.
Pubs almost all have a good few vegetarian choices on their menus but The Blacksmith’s at Carisbrooke has built a fabulous reputation for its food and non meat eaters are well catered for, including a veggie Sunday roast!
