The entrance to Stoats Farm is via Weston Lane, just off Moons Hill and Alum Bay Old Road.
FROM YARMOUTH FERRY (WIGHTLINK)
Coming off the ferry, at the roundabout turn right and go over the bridge.
Follow the A3054 around a left bend and up a hill.
At the top of the hill turn left onto Pixley Hill, which becomes Copse Lane.
Follow this around a right bend until you get to the roundabout at Freshwater (with Rapanui building on your left).
At the roundabout turn left, and then immediately turn right into Stroud Road, following this into Victoria Road.
At the end of Victoria Road turn right onto Moons Hill.
Follow Moons Hill until you get to the Highdown Inn on your left.
Turn right into Weston Lane and the entrance to Stoats farm is on your right.
Please do not attempt to turn into Alum Bay Old Road from Alum Bay New Road coming from Yarmouth if you are towing or in a Motorhome or RV. This is a tight turn. If necessary, carry on along Alum Bay New Road and turn around at The Needles via the roundabout. Please note there is a 6’-6” width restriction when turning onto Alum Bay Old Road from Alum Bay New Road.
FROM EAST COWES (RED FUNNEL FERRY) AND FISHBOURNE (WIGHTLINK FERRY)
Make your way to Newport.
Once you are on Fairlee Road you will go past Medina College (on your right) followed by a service station (on your right).
Approximately 300 metres after the service station there are traffic lights – ensure you are in the right-hand side lane to turn right – over the river and onto the dual carriageway, Medina Way.
Once on the dual carriageway, stay in the left-hand side lane.
Go over the first set of traffic lights (by B&Q on your right).
At the next set of traffic lights, turn left onto the A3054 Forest Road towards Yarmouth.
Follow this road and you will reach Yarmouth after approximately 9 miles.
At the roundabout in Yarmouth turn left.
Follow the A3054 around a left bend and up a hill.
At the top of the hill turn left onto Pixley Hill, which turns becomes Copse Lane.
There is no issue turning onto Alum Bay Old Road coming from the Needles.
CYCLING
Cycle along Moons Hill or Alum Bay Old Road until you reach Weston Lane (opposite the Highdown Inn).
WALKING
To prevent walking along the roads (Moons Hill or Alum Bay Old Road), take the footpath along the Downs by Tennyson Monument (or at the base of the Downs). When you reach the National Trust Car Park Tennyson Down, walk along Highdown Lane until you reach the Highdown Public House. Stoats Farm is directly opposite.
Public Transport Directions
There are good train links via Portsmouth (Hovercraft and FastCat) or Southampton (RedJet). Once on the Island please catch a connecting bus to the Newport Bus Terminal.
From Newport:
Via Yarmouth: catch the number 7 to Yarmouth Bus Station, and then Needles Breezer bus.
Via Freshwater Bay: catch the number 12 to St Agnes Church (the thatched church just past Freshwater Bay).
You can then catch the Needles Breezer bus.
Or you can walk via the Footpath as per the section on Walking.
We are waiting for information from Southern Vectis to determine if they will be running the Needles Breezer bus along Moons Hill and Alum Bay Old Road for 2021. This runs from Yarmouth Bus Station.
