If you are coming to the Isle of Wight seeking a sense of wellbeing then the place you choose to stay must be near the top of the priority list...right?

Well, you won’t be disappointed, because as well as any number of lovely hotels, well-appointed self-catering apartments and cottages, and great family campsites, there are some quirky alternatives.

Enjoy a lakeside holiday within a stunning and relaxing environment surrounded by water and wildlife at Four Lakes Retreat. The waterside lodges are located on the lakes edge providing the perfect place for tranquillity and peace.

How about staying in an old helicopter or a James Bond submarine? Both are possible at the Windmill Campersite, at Carisbrooke, along with several other wacky options.

How about an apartment in nearby Carisbrooke Castle, close to the spot King Charles I sat, awaiting his fate at the hands of Cromwell.

Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s stunning villa in East Cowes also has some lovely cottages to rent in its grounds.

Or, for a real room with a view, Knowles Farm Cottage at Niton overlooks St Catherine’s Lighthouse and the southerly most points of the Island.

Glamping is quite the thing these days, bridging the gap between camping and more ‘solid’ accommodation. The Isle of Wight has embraced the phenomenon with gusto and there are some truly beautiful options for getting away from it all.

Tom’s Eco Lodges offer safari tents, geodesic domes and eco domes all tucked away in the glorious setting of Tapnell Farm with its many attractions.

Another site in the east of the Island is Retro Staycations, where you can stay in a vintage American Airstream.

Or, if you want the place to yourself (well almost), Sibbeck’s Farm Glamping near Whitwell has just two glamping tents, with many mod cons!
