2023 is the Year of the Coast – a year-long celebration marking the creation of the new England Coast Path. With an exciting programme of events happening across England’s entire coastline, we’d love for you to come and celebrate with us.

Discover miles of epic coastline

The Isle of Wight is home to some of the UK’s most spectacular coastal scenery. Our 68-mile long coastal path will take you on a stunning circular journey past busy harbours, sandy seafronts and award-winning beaches. You’ll also get the chance to bask in the beauty of our famous landmarks, including The Needles Landmark Attraction and Queen Victoria’s holiday home, Osborne House. 

And while you’re here, see if you can spot the birds, butterflies, seals and even bottlenose dolphins that make the Isle of Wight coastline their home. There are plenty of wildlife havens at serene nature reserves to explore, allowing you to come face-to-face with the Island’s local residents.

Explore the Island’s stunning coastline by bike or foot

Whether you’re a casual walker, fast-paced hiker or prefer exploring the outdoors on two wheels, take advantage of the Island’s many coastal paths and see the beauty of the coastline up close. The Isle of Wight can be split into six sections, with each part offering something truly unique. Plus, there are over 200 miles of cycle tracks, bridle ways and byways just waiting to be explored. 

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can split your chosen route over a few days. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants along the way, too, where you can stop and have a well-deserved rest as you take in the stunning scenery.

Hop on a bus for a unique coastal tour

Whether you’d like a tour of the Island or need to get from A to B, the Island’s main bus service, Southern Vectis, offers a regular bus route across the Island’s many towns, villages, beaches and accommodation, giving you quick and easy access to the coast. 

Or for the most spectacular open-top views, hop on and off The Needles Breezer and see the magic of the Island’s coastline in comfort. Buses run up to every 30 minutes, connecting you to historic places of interest and areas of outstanding beauty along the stunning Isle of Wight Coast. Wherever you choose to spend your day, the views are guaranteed to take your breath away. 

Discover delicious cuisine right by the water

Not only is the Isle of Wight home to a selection of delicious local cuisine for you to sample, but there are many pubs and restaurants with a sea view, too. Head to the charming town of Shanklin and you’ll find the Fisherman’s Cottage – a thatched pub at the far end of the esplanade. Or if you’re staying at East Wight, be sure to head to Harbour House on the Ryde seafront. 

The beach resort of Sandown also has a plethora of seafront restaurants to try – like the Ocean Deck and The Bandstand, which offers spectacular views of the waves at high tide. 

And you’re bound to find somewhere delicious to eat elsewhere in West and North Wight, too. Because wherever you are on the Island, you’re never far from dinner with a view. 

Make the coast your base for adventure

With its warm climate, clear waters and diverse range of activities, the Isle of Wight is the perfect destination for anyone looking to experience the thrill of water sports in a stunning coastal setting. From surfing and paddle boarding to kayaking and kite boarding, the Island is a hub of adventure – especially if getting out on the water is your idea of fun. 

The Island is sheltered on one side and ferocious on the other, offering plenty of excellent spots to practice your favourite sports. Discover sandy beaches with good waves for surfing and coastal areas with strong winds perfect for sailing and kiteboarding. Ready to dive in?
