#23 - Get a ticket to Ryde for the oldest carnival in Britain
Isle Of Wight
AboutTens of thousands of spectators line the streets for Ryde Carnival, which sees well over a hundred floats parading through the seaside town in late August.
The event has become a significant day for many local residents with the tradition being passed down from the first carnival in the 1880s which Queen Victoria attended.
There are now three main parades with a main carnival as well as a children’s parade and an illuminated procession. Expect to witness a sea of colour with creative costumes displayed on foot and on decorated trailers, whilst the sound of marching bands drowns out the seagulls on Ryde’s Esplanade.
