AboutThe world of cycling is made up of many different types of riders – ranging from enthusiastic road racers and mountain bikers, through to “urban cyclists” and those who prefer to stick to paths and quiet country lanes. The Isle of Wight’s diverse landscapes make it the perfect destination for almost any type of cyclist, with a wide variety of “Bicycle Island” routes available.
The arrival of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series in May 2015 will firmly establish Ryde on the road racers map, and the challenging “Round the Island” route offers a tough prospect for even the most hardy of riders. The same route can be enjoyed as a leisurely pace over a few days, if you’d prefer to take advantage of great accommodation, places to eat and convenient bag transport services along the way.
For mountain bikers the “Chalk Ridge” trail offers steep climbs, soaring views and sweeping downhills through ancient forests, and for a more family-friendly flat cycle, the “Red Squirrel” trail takes you mainly off the roads and along the well laid trails that once made up the Isle of Wight’s Railways.
