Things to do in Godshill

Whilst a visit to Godshill to admire the architecture and location is in itself a very popular activity for visitors, there is also plenty to do in the Godshill and Rookley area, with plenty to put smile on your face and leave you with memories to cherish.

Most people grew up watching The Borrowers, and Model Village Godshill brings back memories of little people living a life in the grass below humanity. Set in nearly two acres of lovingly landscaped gardens, the model village is a treat for people of all ages - and especially loved by children. You’ll be able to find scale models of both Shanklin and Godshill, taking you back to the 1920s - and there is also a 1/10th scale model railway, depicting the former life of the Island Line trains.

Godshill Model Village is an RHS Partner Garden, and you’ll be able to find plenty of delicately trimmed shrubs and bushes - which make up the landscape of the garden. The model village makes for a perfect day out - and when visiting you should also try some of the delicious food served at the Nammet Hut on site. It’s worth noting that the word nammet comes from the Isle of Wight dialect and originally meant a light snack made up of bread and cheese - which was usually consumed by those working in the field.

If you love horses, the Allendale Equestrian Centre near Godshill might just be the place to visit during your stay. The centre caters for all ages and ability, and have 30 well-schooled and ponies ready to meet you on your visit. The centre has approved BHS instructors for those who wish to learn more about riding - and the centre is set back off the road, allowing you to ride off-road and on the wonderful Island bridleways and country lanes.
