Freshwater to Compton Bay
Isle of Wight Coast Path
The Isle of Wight is a walker’s paradise, filled with over 500 miles of footpaths across contrasting landscapes and beaches, making it the ideal place for a walking holiday or break.
This extensive network of footpaths can take you from a gentle meander along rural tree lined paths to longer challenging hikes over open fields and chalk downs. The Isle of Wight’s varied countryside offers fields, forests and woodland, providing the perfect complement to our 64 miles of coastal paths which cover rocky coves, estuaries, and dramatic cliff tops.
Isle of Wight Walking Festival
With so many walks available it’s little wonder that the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which runs in the Spring and Autumn, is the largest in the UK and Europe. This fantastic event offers an enormous range of walks for all ages and abilities; from gentle ambles with toddlers to fire walks - there’s even a night long cross Island endurance event, and a speed dating walk!
Rambles by Bus
Looking to explore a bit further afield but still stay on foot? There are a range of "Rambles by Bus" that have been developed by the Isle of Wight Ramblers and Southern Vectis on which you can follow an inspiring walk which both start and end on a bus route, so you can pick it up from almost anywhere on the Island. You can view the series of Rambles by Bus in our Online Brochure Library.
If you’re looking for a guided walk, let us help you find your way; discover our dinosaur heritage with a fossil hunt, spook yourself with a ghost walk or make walking the focus of your holiday with a long trip that takes you from dell to hill top, beach to woodland. You can very often discover the best local wildlife and landscapes with guided Isle of Wight walks.
There’s plenty to see and do on your Isle of Wight walk and there’s usually a cosy café or welcoming pub at the end of your journey. We’ve also got an excellent local bus and train service linking the ferries and hovercraft – so it’s easy to leave the car behind on the mainland and explore on foot.
So lace up your boots and take to the trail, we look forward to seeing you on the path!
