Come and visit the Island’s only discovery centre for archaeology and meet some archaeologists! Based at the beautiful Fort Victoria, on the edge of the Country Park and the beach, we are hidden within the red brick casemates of this Victorian Coastal Fort.
We’re a social enterprise set up to support the widest possible audience to explore and enjoy the Island’s rich culture. We work with many local artists in our popular gift shop and offer an interesting range of local history and maritime books for sale.
We offer tours of our exhibition and hands-on interactive archaeology challenges daily. You can also pre-book on our regular program of family workshops, outdoor learning sessions, seasonal events and evening talks.
We welcome families and visitors into our interactive exhibition of maritime archaeology - Sunken Secrets - where you can follow the ongoing excavation of a stone age settlement under the sea, explore finds from our local shipwrecks, discover how Fort Victoria and the Isle of Wight have played important role in keeping England defended from her enemies and learn how the military used the fort as a base for intriguing science experiments.
Our visitors say:
“Very interesting, love all the hands on activities and the dressing up. Nice trip into the past use of the building too and lovely staff to top it off. Thank you!” The Russell Family.
“Very interesting exhibition of maritime archaeology! Really enjoyed learning about Bouldnor and looking at early human tools, axes and arrowheads. A real range of historical artefacts for kids and adults alike. Kept our children beautifully entertained for an hour” The Leysen Family.
