#56 - Catch the cat to Portsmouth for a day at the Historic Dockyard
Isle Of Wight
AboutAfter a 20 minute trip across on the Wightlink catamaran and a two minute walk, you’ll find yourself surrounded by British maritime history.
The centrepiece of the Historic Dockyard is HMS Victory, the magnificent warship where Nelson planned the Battle of Trafalgar and where he died in 1805.
Another highlight is Henry VIII’s Mary Rose which is the only 16th century warship on display to the public. It now sits proudly in a new visitor centre – 30 years after it was raised from the seabed.
Other highlights include Queen Victoria’s HMS Warrior and the wartime submarine HMS Alliance, where you can see and smell life under the sea and take a look through the working periscope.
