#39 - Hunt for prehistoric footprints at low tide on Brook Beach
Isle Of Wight
AboutThe soft cliffs of Brook Chine on the unspoilt west coast reveal a time when dinosaurs dominated the landscape. Amateur and professional fossil hunters have uncovered treasures which now sit proudly in museums and reveal more about the Island’s prehistoric past.
Plenty of evidence remains on the beach for the family-friendly fossil hunting expeditions which educate and entertain visitors to the Island. Spend a couple of hours getting an expert’s insight of what lies beneath the golden coloured cliffs.
A particular highlight are the large three-pronged footprints which emerge at low tide. They are thought to be the work of an Iguanodon which have been preserved as sandstone when the muddy impressions were filled with sand.
