#34 - Take a night time walk through the illuminated chine at Shanklin
Isle Of Wight
AboutWithin one of the Isle of Wight’s bustling seaside resorts you will find the tranquillity of Shanklin Chine. The historic gorge has been charming visitors since 1817, making it perhaps the oldest of the Island’s purpose-built attractions.
Some visitors come to see its leafy wildlife including ferns and wild garlic, whilst others come to see its dramatic waterfalls or hope to spot a rare red squirrel at the Chine’s feeding station.
At dusk, the Chine is illuminated thanks to more than five miles of cable and almost 200 lights. Designers had in mind a cathedral roof when they set out their plans for lighting the famous site – come and decide for yourself whether they achieved it.
