Brighstone is a small village located to the south west of the Island and based around the Military Road, which runs all the way along from the hilly south to the picturesque west. Many visitors choose to take a drive along the Military Road to witness the stunning views, where the quintessentially English countryside meets the English Channel. Most people choose to make the journey by car, but some visitors might opt for the healthier option of cycling, and luckily there are a few pit stops along the way for people looking to stop and have a quick break and a bite to eat.
Isle of Wight Pearl Café
Isle of Wight Pearl has been running for over 30 years and is a great place to visit if you’re looking to pick up a little gift from your Isle of Wight holiday to give to someone special. It’s also home to the fantastic Pearl Café which offers panoramic views across the Island’s coastline, so you can sit and have a tasty cream tea whilst relaxing and taking in the beautiful scenery.
The café is open 7 days a week, and offers visitors a delicious range of sandwiches and baguettes as well as more substantial main meals such as breaded scampi, homemade pie of the day and battered cod and chips.
The Sun Inn
The Sun Inn in nearby Hulverstone is slightly more inland and well worth a visit. This traditional thatched pub is the perfect place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat. Head out to the back bar for a traditional Isle of Wight pub experience with stone floor and roaring log fire in the winter. The Sun Inn also takes pride in serving delicious local produce that’s beautifully presented, so make sure you pay this fantastic pit stop a visit while you’re in this rural and enchanting part of the Island! (Please note: there's also a Sun Inn in Calbourne, which is a different establishment but also well worth a visit!)
