The Olympic Torch Relay
The Isle of Wight Council is honoured that the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has chosen the Isle of Wight to be part of the Olympic Torch route, which is a once in a lifetime occasion.
The torch will arrive in Yarmouth on July 14 and then visit Totland, The Needles, Gunville, Carisbrooke, Newport and East Cowes before returning to the mainland to continue its 70-day UK tour.
The flame will be carried by dozens of people while it is on the Isle of Wight.

The Full Route & Timings
The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has published precise timings and the full route the Olympic torch will follow when it arrives on the Isle of Wight on Saturday 14 July.
The torch will arrive at Yarmouth on board a Wightlink ferry at 12.44pm, with its vehicle convoy forming up before beginning its journey towards The Needles at precisely 1.04pm.
The first torchbearer will begin their run on Madeira Lane in Totland at 1.08pm, with several bearers then running with the Flame through to York Lane until 1.23pm.
The next torchbearer will then begin their run at The Needles Park at Alum Bay at 1.27pm. During the time that the Flame is at The Needles, it will be carried down the chairlift to the seafront before returning to the top at 1.58pm.
The torch convoy will then make its way to Yarmouth where the next person to carry the Flame will start their turn on River Road in Yarmouth at 2.14pm. The torch will be carried through the town, going through Quay Street, Pier Street, the High Street, Baskett's Lane, Tennyson Road and The Mount.
At 2.23pm it will then be taken towards Carisbrooke where the next torchbearer will carry the Flame at 2.38pm on Gunville Road.
The torch will be then be carried by several bearers all the way from Gunville Road, through Carisbrooke High Street and on through Newport town centre, where head down the High Street towards Coppins Bridge.
From there it will be carried along Fairlee Road to Medina College at 3.17pm, which will be hosting the Isle of Wight Primary School Games.
The torch will begin its final leg of its stay on the Island as it then heads towards East Cowes.
The convoy will first go to Osborne House where a torchbearer will run through the grounds before coming out onto The Avenue at 3.50pm. It will then be carried down onto York Avenue and Well Road before finishing at Red Funnel's vehicle yard.
The convoy will then board the ferry, where it will complete its journey in Southampton which is hosting an evening welcome event.
Details of who has been chosen to carry the torch will be revealed later in the Spring by LOCOG, and more details about the torch visit to the Isle of Wight will be available as the event nears, such as suggested viewing areas.
