In and around Shanklin
With its beautiful beach and gardens, its history and tradition, Shanklin is a charming seaside town.
Start with a cliff-top walk for spectacular views over Sandown Bay. Then relax in one of Shanklin's beautiful parks or the peaceful Rylstone Gardens. Lose yourself in the historic Old Village with its thatched cottages and tearooms, or visit the famous Shanklin Chine - a gorge with rare plants and a delightful waterfall.
Visit the theatre, enjoy the annual Shanklin Regatta or one of the town's superb carnivals. And if eating out you're spoilt for choice with a range of restaurants from Mediterranean to Thai, cafes and pubs.
Overlooked by the dramatic sandstone cliffs, Shanklin's long sandy beach is popular in the summer with swimmers and sunbathers. Dotto trains operate up and down the long esplanade with a selection of accommodation, places to eat and drink, and children's play area. For the more adventurous you can take part in water sports including sailing and windsurfing.
Getting Around
Exploring Shanklin is easy with buses, road trains, a cliff lift and ample car parking. Bus services operate northwards to Sandown, Brading and Ryde, south to Ventnor, or across the Island to Godshill, Newport and Cowes.
The Vectis Road Train links the Seafront with the Old Village and Town Centre, whilst the "Sandown Bay Tour", links the two resorts of Shanklin and Sandown.
